Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe has surprised his fans by debuting a rather drastic new look.

The 59-year-old has become synonymous in recent years with the big bushy beard that he’d often sport on the red carpet or during public appearances.

But the beard is no longer as Crowe shared a snap with his X, formerly Twitter, followers and told them he’s chopped off his facial hair.

In the accompanying caption, Crowe also revealed it was the first time he’d reached for the razor in half a decade

“The actor prepares #20,” Crowe penned. “First shave since 2019.”

It didn’t take long for fans of the Hollywood A-lister to inundate him with their supportive comments, including many who complimented his new look.

“Wow, you look 20 years younger,” one fan replied while a second echoed: “Looks good! It’s nice to change it up and shave. You have a nice face it was hiding behind all that hair.”

Meanwhile, a third follower weighed in: “20 years younger instantly!”

And a fourth struggled to recognise the Aussie actor: “Who is that… i think its Russell Crowe…”

“It doesn’t feel like 2019 was 5 years ago! Smart look,” another praised while a sixth complimented: “You’ve literally shaved off 20 years of age…” (sic)

The new look is a significant change from his latest on-screen role.

Crowe recently returned to the big screen in the action thriller Land of Bad alongside the likes of Liam Hemsworth and Ricky Whittle.

He’ll also be heading to the UK soon so fans will be able to see Crowe’s newfound smooth chin in person.

He took to social media yesterday to reveal a list of dates for when he’ll be touring the UK with his band will be announced in March.

He’s also got Kraven the Hunter alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson on the way later this year along with intriguing drama, Rothko.
