Huw Edwards was reportedly warned about his behaviour online approximately 24 months before being swept up in a national scandal, according to the Sunday Times.

Nine months ago, Edwards was the subject of a report by The Sun which exposed a prominent BBC newsreader for paying thousands of pounds to a young person for explicit images.

Edwards was suspended by the Beeb shortly after the scandal broke in July 2023 after his wife confirmed he was the unnamed star but his confirmed departure from the corporation didn’t happen until last week.

South Wales Police and the Metropolitan Police found no evidence of criminal conduct in relation to Edwards’ conduct.

The veteran newsreader, who’d fronted coverage of King Charles III’s Coronation and Queen Elizabeth II’s death, resigned on medical grounds.

According to the Sunday Times, a review into the allegations and complaints that ultimately resulted in Edwards’ exit revealed the 2023 complaints weren’t the first.

It reports that a female member of the public had previously contacted the BBC in May 2021 following an interaction with Edwards on social media.

The publication goes on to claim that Edwards was collared by the BBC and told the interactions with the woman “had to stop”.

However, the interactions continued which reportedly prompted a further complaint in January 2022.

The woman in her 40s reportedly retracted her 2021 and 2022 complaints.

A BBC spokesperson told GB News in response to the Sunday Times report: “As set out in our statement earlier this week, Huw Edwards resigned on 22 April on the basis of medical advice from his doctors.

“The BBC accepted his resignation and we do not believe it appropriate to comment further.”

In a statement confirming his departure from the Beeb, the corporation said last week: “Huw Edwards has today resigned and left the BBC.

“After 40 years of service, Huw has explained that his decision was made on the basis of medical advice from his doctors.
