Marks and Spencer has caused controversy over an egg-themed dessert. While some customers can’t wait to try M&S Egg & Soldier Mousse Cakes, others are confused as to why anybody would want to.

Alongside some pictures of the tasty treat, NewfoodsUK posted on Facebook: “M&S Egg & Soldier Mousse Cakes are back!! Sponge cake on a white chocolate wafer base filled with white chocolate mousse & passion fruit sauce! Back at M&S this month!”

The dessert looks uncannily similar to a soft-boiled egg and soldiers. Some Marks and Spencer fans were delighted to hear the news, but others couldn’t understand why anyone would want a dessert that looked like a boiled egg.

The post has amassed a whopping 2,200 likes at the time of writing and almost 1,000 comments. One M&S customer tagged their loved one, stating: “Little errand for you – I want one of these.”

‘I need this in my life !!! Please make it happen’

Another M&S shopper will be gifting them to herself: “I’m gonna treat myself.” A third tagged her friend under the post, stating: “I think we need to try these.”

M&S shoppers flocked to the comments section to tag their friends, calling for a trip to the retailer and making statements like “we just need to go ASAP”.

An M&S customer pleaded: “I need this in my life !!! Please make it happen.”

One joked that the dessert could be eaten for “Sunday breakfast”. Another commented: “These look awesome.”

Overall, Easter pud enthusiasts were overjoyed to hear about the dessert’s return, with foodies commenting variations of “delicious” and “awesome”.

However, not everyone was over the moon about a dessert that looks like breakfast. A shopper asked: “What would you want your dessert to look like eggs for?”

Another tagged their sister and said: “Not sure how I feel about this?”

Another made an ingredient suggestion change: “It would have been nicer with caramel instead of passion fruit.”

For those who can’t wait to get their hands on M&S’ Egg & Soldier Mousse Cakes, Marks and Spencer made a statement on its website. It read: “This iconic pud is based on everyone’s favourite nostalgic breakfast – egg and soldiers.

“Enjoy a soft and squidgy sponge cake on a white chocolate wafer base filled with white chocolate mousse and passion fruit sauce, with caramel-flavoured white chocolate decorations. We won’t judge if you want to enjoy this one for brekkie.”

Customers will be able to pick up these “super cute cakes” in the M&S Foodhall from March 27.

The breakfast dippy eggs dessert is just one of several Easter puddings at M&S. Here, the Easter Lamb meets Colin the Caterpillar to make two decadent chocolate sponge logs.

The Baa Baa Cheesecake Sheep and Scrummy Bunny Munch are also sure to delight tastebuds.

Marks and Spencer shoppers aren’t the only ones excited about new products. Aldi recently brought back a best-selling – and award-winning – beverage.
