Two Chinese car brands have made major headways in the UK’s electric vehicle market despite being available for less than six months.
OMODA&JAECOO have reported an impressive sales benchmark of 2,561 vehicles in 2025 so far, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
OMODA has only been in the UK since September 2024, while JAECOO launched in January 2025, with both brands already taking aim at legacy manufacturers with impressive sales.
Interest in the petrol OMODA 5 and the all-electric OMODA E5 has resulted in more than 1,110 sales in the first few months of the year.

JAECOO recently launched the luxury 7 SUV at the end of January, which has already been registered 1,449 times, market data from the SMMT shows.
The Wuhu-based manufacturer is in a confident position to overtake its total 2024 sales of 3,383 new registrations by the end of March 2025.
Commenting on the UK market introduction, Victor Zhang, UK Director of OMODA&JAECOO, said: “We have become the most successful OMODA&JAECOO new market introduction by volume.
“It takes a strong team, a well-planted dealer and aftersales presence, plus a tailored set of vehicles – compellingly priced for the private and fleet market – to do what we have done in such a short amount of time.”
OMODA&JAECOO has already established an impressive dealership network around the UK with 72 locations, with hopes this will grow to more than 80 by quarter three of this year.
It is backed by major car dealership locations around the UK, including Arnold Clark, Listers, Desira and Allen Motor Group, to support the rollout of more vehicles.
The automaker also confirmed that it would be looking to expand further with new vehicle offerings by the end of the year. Retailers will be boosted with product launches of the OMODA 9, OMODA 7 and JAECOO 5.
Sales of OMODA&JAECOO have made a huge stride in 2025, overtaking the likes of legacy brands, including Citroen, Fiat, Lexus, Polestar and Porsche.
Zhang added: “We will continue to expand our UK team, dealer network and work on market integration of our new vehicles for the rest of the year and beyond.
“This is just the beginning as we show our ‘Value. Every. Thing.’ mentality and how we earn our badge here in the UK.”
The massive sales boost from OMODA&JAECOO comes at a time when electric vehicles are seeing a significant increase in sales, making the UK one of Europe’s biggest new car markets for EVs.
The latest data from the SMMT shows that electric vehicles accounted for one in four new car sales in February 25, with 21,244 new registrations.

While petrol still retains a market-leading 47.4 per cent market share, this represents a staggering 17.3 per cent drop in sales compared to the same time last year.
Diesel has also shown a dramatic 15.1 per cent drop year-on-year, retaining a market share of just five per cent.
Hybrids and plug-in hybrids continue to see growth, with 13.6 per cent and 8.7 per cent of the market share, respectively.
