Houseplants are a staple in many British households, adding some colour and life to every room.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, an expert shared how to care for aloe vera.
This is a great plant for novices as it doesn’t take much to thrive, according to plant expert at Plantum Anastasia Borisevich.
She explained: “The fact that aloe plants grow in some of the driest corners of the world may give you an idea of how hardy they are. You really don’t need to do a lot to please them – they thrive on little care.”

So, forgetting to water your aloe for a few days won’t do it any harm. In fact, this is what the plant prefers.
Anastasia continued: “Water the plant once the soil dries out by two-thirds of its volume, which should be about once every three weeks. Use soft, room-temperature water for watering.
“If the temperature rises and the soil dries out quickly, water the plant once every two weeks. When it gets colder, reduce watering to once a month.
“Remove excess water from the plant saucer to prevent waterlogging. Make sure the water doesn’t get on the leaves or in the leaf rosette to avoid rot.”
Occasional watering is all aloe needs to stay healthy, the expert stated. While many plants require regular misting, this step can also be skipped with these plants.
She explained: “Aloe doesn’t require misting, but you can wipe the dust off the foliage with a wet sponge now and then.
“Be careful not to remove the wax coating from the leaves. You can use a brush to gently dust off the leaves.”
The main thing that aloe owners should be cautious of is where they position the plant so it gets enough heat.
