A teenager has been sentenced after damaging a car and threatening staff at an Aldi supermarket following a break-up with his girlfriend.

Daniel Neave, 19, of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court where he admitted criminal damage and using threatening words to provoke fear or violence.

The incident occurred on January 29 at the Gaywood branch of the supermarket chain.

Neave confronted a staff member whose daughter he had previously been in a relationship with.

Prosecutor Asif Akram told the court that Neave’s relationship with the staff member’s daughter had recently ended.

He was no longer welcome at their address, where he had lived for a period of time.

The court heard that Neave approached the woman in the store, shouting abuse before being escorted out.

“He went to her work to tell her that the relationship was finished and that ‘she got what she wanted’,” Neave’s solicitor Charlotte Winchester explained.

Once outside, Neave punched the front windscreen of a white Skoda Rapid parked outside the store.

The damage to the vehicle was estimated at £400.

During the incident, the store manager touched Neave’s shoulder in an attempt to calm him down.

Neave responded “aggressively”, telling the manager: “Don’t touch me, I will f***ing flatten you.”

The court heard that Neave had been in a relationship with the daughter for eight months.

A couple of days before the incident, he was asked to leave their address, leaving him homeless.

Winchester told the court that Neave felt aggrieved by the mother’s involvement in the relationship.

She also explained that when the manager touched Neave’s shoulder during the confrontation, he became “triggered due to past trauma”.

Magistrates handed Neave a conditional discharge for six months.

He was ordered to pay £100 compensation for the criminal damage caused to the vehicle.

Neave must also pay a £26 victim surcharge.
