Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins shows off his new golden GRILLZ as the soon-to-be free-agent follows up on his promise to live up to ‘Kirko Chainz’ phenomenon

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has finally followed up on his promise to get grillz in his mouth after sharing a photo of his new look on social media.

Cousins, who is set to enter free agency after six years with the Vikings, posted the picture on Instagram with the caption: ‘If you haven’t yet found a Grillz-guy, check out Dr. Lebster. 5/5 stars! 

‘He doesn’t take Kohl’s Cash, but he does great work. I know @jjettas29[Justin Jefferson] approves.’

To live up to the ‘Kirko Chainz’ phenomenon of 2022, when he was spotted wearing huge gold and diamond chains on a team journey to DC, and to emulate teammate Jefferson, Cousins has long joked about getting grillz – the removable decorative tooth covers made of either gold, silver or jewel-encrusted precious metals.

Adding to the hilarious moment, Jefferson commented on the post: ‘Next we got to get u some diamond ones,’ with two laughing emojis. 

Cousins is still recovering from a torn Achilles that he suffered a little over three months ago, while he is also set to be a free agent this summer.

The 36-year-old is reportedly hoping for a contract in the range of two years and $90million.

While it could seem a sticker-shock ask, Cousins was No. 15 in average salary at $35 million on his existing contract with the Vikings.

If he nets another guaranteed contract and the cap hit for 2024 comes in at $45million, he would be the eighth in the league between Josh Allen (Bills, $47.1 million cap number in ’24) and Derek Carr (Saints, $35.7 million).

Cap gymnastics make it feasible to reduce Cousins’ cap figure to a more palatable number for next season. But the Vikings also have critical contracts to negotiate with wide receiver Justin Jefferson and edge rusher Danielle Hunter, among others.

Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah recently stated the team had no interest in trading Jefferson amid the uncertainty around his contract extension and that the two sides ‘unbelievably close’ to a deal last year.

Cousins also recently said his focus in free agency mostly be on ‘structure,’ and not salary when his contract automatically voids in March. 

Ever since his final few seasons with the Washington Commanders, Cousins has played on fully guaranteed contracts, but it remains uncertain if the Vikings new front office is willing to give him the same structure in a new contract.
