Daily Mail Australia’s live blog brings you all the updates and scores from the third and deciding game of this year’s State of Origin series.
The tackle of the match so far
Tom Dearden just nailed Liam Martin as he screamed into the line, forcing him to knock it on. Absolutely outstanding from the Cowboys star.
And a six again to the Blues on the Maroons line
Huge chance in this set…
Penalty NSW
Stupid late tackle from Capewell there, and Liam Martin has got the death stare from hell going.
The captain gets cracked
Here’s one of the many big hits we’ve had tonight.
The shot that undid Crichton
You can see Angus Crichton’s neck folding at the moment of impact here. We’ll soon learn if we’ll see him again last night.
Queensland get a big break
Luai just spilled it in a Cherry-Evans tackle and it’s a huge relief for the Maroons, who were under the pump for most of the first 10 minutes here.
Moses almost breaks them open and NSW get a penalty
Great set saw NSW attacking the line and Moses kicked for himself – but Blues fans will be insisting he was taken out. Ashley Klein begs to differ.
NSW are winning the field position battle pretty definitively so far.
And now the visitors get a penalty after Cotter and Capewell appeared to life Stephen Crichton in a tackle
Crichton update
The independent doctor made the call for him to come off and he’s showing category 2 signs, meaning he has 15 minutes to prove he’s right to come back to the field.
Now Edwards gets hammered
This is a hit-a-thon but Slater won’t be entirely happy – there are big shots aplenty but the Blues are still finding space and making good metres each set. The Maroons need to organise their line a bit better.
Cam Murray gets blasted… then Trbojevic cops the same treatment
There was some push and shove after Crichton went off, then the Maroons aimed up in defence with two punishing hits in a row.
Haas righted the ship, then turned in a great charge in the same set. He is having his best Origin game so far.
Angus Crichton in trouble
It looks like the Rooster, who was close to best on ground in game two, hurt himself trying to put a hit on Reece Walsh.
It seems he hurt his neck rather than taking a head knock and but is coming off for an HIA, with Mitch Barnett going on.
Kickoff! And it doesn’t go to plan for the Maroons
Great hit-up from Payne Haas to get us started. That’s not the statement Queensland wanted to begin with. And Bradman Best is away – but spills it and Reece Walsh recovers.
What a mad first 30 seconds that was.
Just minutes away now – and Jarome Luai stands out again
Time for the welcome to country and anthem.
The teams are standing arm in arm – except for Luai who, like he did in previous Origin matches, is keeping his hands to himself in what looks like a typical footy star superstition.
The Blues take the field
And the boos are probably being heard in Cairns. Now waiting for the Maroons to run out.
Why Billy Slater changed his entire front row
The Maroons coach has revealed he benched Ben Hunt, Reuben Cotter and Lindsay Collins because he believes Harry Grant, Felise Kaufusi and Moeaki Fotuaika ‘will give us a positive start and the guys on the bench will give us a lot of energy when they come on’.
And Origin’s best dressed award goes to…
Where’s Wally? Absolutely bloody everywhere in this bay at Suncorp as a troop of Maroons tragics have dressed up as the Origin legend.
We’ll take a guess and say the bloke in the front is dressed as The Emperor of Lang Park – one of Wally Lewis’s better nicknames.
However, like a Where’s Wally puzzle, there is one fan here who sticks out from the rest. Can you spot him?
King Wally sends NSW fans a warning
The all-time Maroons great and footy Immortal had a message for Cockroaches fanatics who have been brave enough to rock up to Suncorp Stadium tonight: watch out.
Queensland get their first win of the night
The Maroons have taken out the coin toss and will kick off. That’s exactly what Cane Toads legend Cameron Smith was hoping for – saying he wanted his team to defend first so they can start bashing the Blues right from the get-go.
Billy Slater makes last-minute changes
The Maroons coach has made a big call by dropping Ben Hunt to the bench and starting Harry Grant at hooker.
Slater has also added Felise Kaufusi and Moeaki Fotuaika to the starting side, with Lindsay Collins and Jeremiah Nanai riding the pine.
That gives the Queenslanders a completely new-look front row.
NSW, meanwhile, are as named.
Payne Haas gets some stunning news just before kickoff
The NSW prop has been sweating over the fate of his father Gregor, who is facing serious drug trafficking charges – and there’s just been a major development in the case that will please the Blues enforcer no end.
PNG footy fans take it to the next level
Yep, we love our Origin – but in the only country in the world that has rugby league as its national sport, footy fans take it to the next level, like this young Maroons supporter.
Poor fashion choice from Queensland Premier Steven Miles
No, not the Maroons scarf – the blue jacket. It almost looks like Queensland’s leader is having an each-way bet.
Your Origin teams – barring any late changes
1. Reece Walsh 2. Selwyn Cobbo 3. Dane Gagai 4. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow 5. Valentine Holmes 6. Tom Dearden 7. Daly Cherry-Evans 8. Reuben Cotter 9. Ben Hunt 10. Lindsay Collins 11. Kurt Capewell 12. Jeremiah Nanai 13. Patrick Carrigan 14. Harry Grant 15. Moeaki Fotuaika 16. Felise Kaufusi 17. Kalyn Ponga 18. Trent Loiero
No, not the fact that the Cockroaches have only won two deciders in Brisbane since Origin began.
We’re referring to the Blues winning the penalty count in just nine of the 60 Origin matches played in the Queensland capital. Odds are Ashley Klein (pictured below) won’t be evening up the ledger tonight – and the six again count will be well worth keeping an eye on, too.
Brian To’o is drinking how many cans of Coke before the game?
He’s one of the Blues’ best and scored a double in the big win at the MCG in game two, but if you think To’o is fuelling himself with dietitian-approved meals of steamed vegetables, chicken with the skin taken off and soy milk for dessert, think again…
The view from Caxton Street
The Blues tried to get the team bus to drive down the famous stretch of tarmac, right past the Caxon Street Hotel, to bring back an Origin tradition that saw NSW stars of years past pelted with abuse and full cans of XXXX.
They were knocked back by the police, who said it’d be too dangerous. Here’s how it was looking a stone’s throw from Suncorp Stadium not too long ago…
Meet Australia’s unhappiest Queenslander
While the rest of the Maroons army are bubbling with excitement with kickoff about 90 minutes away, Jaydn Su’A has spoken out about getting dropped for game three – and he’s not happy.
G’day and welcome
Thanks for joining us for Daily Mail Australia’s coverage of one of the most highly anticipated Origin games in years.
We’ll have all the latest updates, scores and reaction as the Maroons try to win their third straight series under coach Billy Slater and get revenge for the belting they suffered at the hands of the Blues in game two.
