Ange Postecoglou was left raging after Tottenham’s 3-0 thrashing against Fulham that saw his side miss the chance to climb into the Champions League places.

Spurs would have leapfrogged Aston Villa into the Premier League’s top four with a win and the manager sarcastically fumed during his post-match interview.

The Australian is renowned for his no nonsense answers to questions about Tottenham’s performances and was animated as he suggested the race for a spot in next season’s Champions League is now over.

Postecoglou hit back after being asked by Sky Sports reporter Emma Saunders about how much of a ‘dent’ the defeat has had on Tottenham’s European ambitions.

The clearly-annoyed 58-year-old laughed and smiled before stating: ‘Yeah look it’s all over [the top four race] so we will just go for sixth.

‘I mean what am I supposed to say to that, we are two points behind Villa. Yeah? What does that mean with 10 games to go, what are 10 games to go,’ he added.

The exchange further continued with more bizarre reactions from the Tottenham boss as it was suggested that Spurs had failed to build momentum after previously beaten Villa last weekend.

Saunders added: ‘Just with the huge strides forward beating Aston Villa last weekend, chance to capitalise on that, put yourselves into those top four places just psychologically.’

Postecoglou performed a series of exaggerated head movements before bluntly replying: ‘Psychologically I don’t really worry about that stuff. It is 10 games there is so much football to be played.

‘If we had won today nothing was guaranteed, could’ve lost last week nothing was guaranteed.

’10 games still to play so I don’t worry about that stuff and never have. It’s not about just falling into a place in the ladder.’

The remaining aim for Tottenham this season is to qualify for the Champions League as the club seek to further cement their place amongst Europe’s elite.

But, the unhappy manager further downplayed the importance of that target and insisted the most important thing is how his side play, after being outplayed by Fulham.

Fulham’s Brazilian striker Rodrigo Muniz scored twice in his side’s impressive home victory

Postecoglou sarcastically smiled and made a series of exaggerated head movements while being interviewed

‘We can finish fourth great, everyone’s happy, brilliant, it’s nothing that hasn’t been done at this football club before.

‘It’s about how we play that’s all I’m interested in and we were disappointed today so we’ve got to learn from that, move forward and tackle the next game.’

Saturday’s Premier League clash was Tottenham’s game in hand on both Aston Villa and Manchester United – who are behind in sixth position.

Unai Emery’s Villa side maintain a two-point lead ahead of Spurs while Erik ten Hag’s inconsistent United team remain six-points adrift in the English top-flight standings.
