Thousands of NatWest customers have been left unable to access their accounts this morning after the bank’s mobile app suffered a widespread outage.
The banking app issues began around 7:30am on November 10, with more than a thousand customers reporting problems by 9am according to outage monitoring site DownDetector.
Customers across the UK have been experiencing difficulties with mobile login and banking services, leaving many unable to access their money.
The technical problems are affecting NatWest’s main banking app, with users flooding both social media and DownDetector with complaints about the service disruption.
Users have reported receiving error messages stating: “We’re sorry, some kind of error has occurred when trying to establish a connection between your device and ourselves. Please close the app and try again.”
Users are specifically experiencing problems with logging in on their phones and online banking access.
While customers are being asked to check their data and wifi connections, NatWest has confirmed this is an app-wide issue affecting their services.
One customer wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Can you sort out your app? It’s becoming annoying now.”
Another frustrated user added: “App not working… Get it sorted pronto. Also if down and has been for around 40 minutes why have you failed to update the website?”
While another said: “NatWest app is down again, please report it to your IT teams. This is happening too frequently.”
And a further person added: “@NatWest_Help can you sort out your app? It’s becoming annoying now.”
The problems have prompted widespread complaints across social media platforms and outage reporting sites.
NatWest has acknowledged the technical difficulties, with their support teams confirming they are aware of the ongoing issue.
The bank’s social media team stated: “We’re aware of the an issue and our technical teams are looking into this. There is no timescale for a resolution at this stage, though the team will be working to resolve this ASAP.”
The banking giant has responded to numerous customer complaints on social media, assuring users they are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
However, with no specific timeline provided for when services will be restored, customers remain uncertain about when they will regain access to the mobile banking app.
In response to the outage, NatWest has provided alternative methods for customers to access their accounts.
The bank’s social media team advised: “If you need access to the account you can login to Online Banking or you can call us on 03457 888 444.”
Customers requiring urgent account access have been directed to use the bank’s website for online banking services.
Alternatively, customers can contact NatWest’s telephone banking team using the number on the back of their bank card.
