Kate Garraway will spend Christmas beside her husband Derek Draper in hospital after he suffered a devastating heart attack earlier this month, according to reports.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 56, has cancelled all her TV and radio work to keep a 24-hour watch on her husband.
The 56-year-old former political advisor is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Garraway and her children Darcey, 17, and Billy, 14, will remain in hospital as much as possible over the festive period to take care of Draper, according to The Sun.
A source told the newspaper: “It’s been a heartbreaking time for Kate and, of course, poor Derek.
“Sadly, his condition remains much the same. The children are aware of the situation and have been by their dad’s bedside as much as possible.
“The whole family is rallying around and trying to stay strong for one another. At Christmas time, this is especially devastating.”
Last week, Garraway’s Smooth Radio colleague Jenni Falconer issued a worrying update on Draper’s health, saying it “doesn’t look like he’s in a good way”.
She added: “We’re sending lots of love to Kate, Derek and the family… especially at this time of the year.”
Draper fell seriously ill after contracting Covid in early 2020. The virus caused long-lasting damage to his organs and left him needing daily care.
In April 2021, Draper returned home after more than a year in hospital.
Garraway has made documentaries detailing her family’s life as Draper battles the long-term effects of Covid.
She has also brought out several books to help others by describing her experience, including The Power Of Hope: The Moving Memoir From ITV’s Kate Garraway.
Draper has been in and out of hospital but was at her side in June when she collected her MBE for her services to broadcasting, journalism and charity from the Prince of Wales at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
