Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf reveals the one job Jose Mourinho wants after being sacked by Roma – as he tells the ex-Man United boss to be ‘patient’

  • Mourinho was let go by Roma on Tuesday with the club ninth in the Serie A table
  • He has been sacked six times in his career having coached some high-level sides
  • CHRIS SUTTON: Don’t wait! Sir Jim Ratcliffe must fire Erik ten Hag now – It’s All Kicking Off

Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf has claimed to know that Jose Mourinho has one final ambition in management.

Mourinho was sacked by Roma on Tuesday with the club ninth in the Serie A table and was replaced by former club captain Daniele De Rossi just hours later.

The Portuguese coach was spotted on Tuesday leaving the training ground with tears in his eyes – and has since delivered an emotional farewell message in Italian to the fans, which translates as: ‘Sweat, blood, tears, joy, sadness, love, brothers, history, heart, eternity.’

It was the sixth sacking of the 60-year-old’s career, and there is no clear destination for where the former Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid manager may end up next.

One man who may have a slight idea, though, is Leboeuf, who, after making over 200 appearances for the Blues, turned to acting. The 55-year-old, via ESPN, has claimed to have been told by the man himself what else he wants to achieve in his career.

‘I remember interviewing Mr Mourinho when he was at Madrid or Chelsea when he came over to Los Angeles,’ Leboeuf began.

‘He admitted that the last thing he would love to do in his coaching career would be to get the Portuguese national team job. I think that’s going to be his goal.

‘It’s tricky right now with Roberto [Martinez] but I really think he can be patient and see how it goes during the Euros and then maybe jump into the seat if he has the chance to.’

Martinez is the man tasked with delivering success to the Portugal national team and will lead them into the European Championships this summer, having joined the club last year, following his departure from Belgium.

Mourinho, meanwhile, has never coached at national level, though a disaster for Portugal in the summer could open the door for him to take charge of his national side.

IT’S ALL KICKING OFF!

It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football, with a show every Monday and Thursday this season.

It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube , Apple Music and Spotify

Mourinho’s sacking, meanwhile, unsurprisingly dominated the front covers of the Italian sports dailies on Wednesday. Corriere dello Sport called Mourinho the ‘Fired One’, an obvious play on his old ‘Special One’ nickname.

The ‘capital is in shock’, they wrote, after Roma’s owners, the Friedkin family, sacked the man who guided the club to two European finals.

They quote the statement released by Dan and Ryan Friedkin, who stressed ‘immediate change’ was necessary ‘in the best interest of the club.’
