Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence appeared to sustain a bad ankle injury from his own teammate when Walker Little stepped back onto him in Monday night’s game against the Bengals.
Lawrence’s own bodyweight then appeared to force his ankle to twist further, before Bengals player Trey Hendrickson fell on top of him, inadvertently compounding the injury further.
Lawrence at first stayed down in pain, tried to get up and then crumpled back to the ground and threw his helmet to the floor and punched the ground, with his face a mix of pain and frustration.
He needed to be helped away from the field by two trainers but was moving very slowly and went immediately for an X-ray as the stadium fell silent.
The Jaguars said he was questionable to return with around three minutes left in the game but Lawrence looked done for the day as he was filmed wincing in pain trying to move down the tunnel.
Trevor Lawrence appeared to badly hurt his ankle in the fourth quarter of Jaguars vs Bengals
The Jaguars headed into Monday night’s game 8-3 for the season with seven wins from their last eight.
But if Lawrence is anywhere near as badly hurt as he looked, it would be enough to derail their hopes for the rest of the season.
It appeared to be a costly night for the Jaguars, who also lost wide receiver Christian Kirk on the first play of the night to a groin injury.
