Boiler expert warns ‘small investment’ could save you ‘thousands of pounds’

Failing to fix common faulty boiler red flags could cost homeowners thousands of pounds, as well as leaving a property without heating during the winter.

Low boiler pressure is a common culprit behind heating problems, and if left unaddressed, it could prove costly.

It could signal an underlying issue, and if ignored, may result in significant repair costs.

Boiler expert James Elston, director at Boiler Central, is urging people to seek professional advice if signs of an issue arise, suggesting it could save money in the long run.

Low boiler pressure is a “silent troublemaker” that can cause chaos on a heating system

He said: “Low boiler pressure is more than just a minor inconvenience, it’s a silent troublemaker that can wreak havoc on your heating system.

“When boiler pressure consistently dips below the recommended levels, the consequences can be severe.”

Mr Elston said reduced heating performance, skyrocketing energy bills and the risk of damaging internal components are just a few of the “headaches” billpayers could encounter.

He added: “Homeowners must be proactive in addressing this problem and seeking professional advice when needed.”

The boiler expert said there may be a number of ways to tackle low boiler pressure before it gets to the costly repair stage – such as regularly checking the boiler’s pressure gauge to make sure it’s within the recommended range.

He said: “If you notice a persistent drop, it’s time to investigate further.

“A quick pressure check can save you from potential headaches down the line. Think of it as giving your boiler a health check.”

In some instances, it may be possible to address low pressure issues on one’s own.

Mr Elston suggested: “If you’re comfortable, you can try repressurising the boiler yourself.

“Most boilers come with user-friendly instructions and it’s a simple task that can make a big difference.”

However, not all pressure problems can be fixed by oneself, and if homeowners are unsure or the problem doesn’t go away, Mr Elston urges people to seek professional help.

He said: “Boilers are complex systems and it’s always better to have a qualified technician assess the situation.

“A small investment in a service call can save you from thousands of pounds worth of major repair bills further down the line.”

Taking steps to prevent boiler pressure problems can also be worthwhile, and regular servicing, bleeding radiators and checking for leaks are recommended.

Mr Elston said: “Prevention is key. Regular maintenance ensures your boiler operates at its best, preventing issues before they escalate.”

A vigilant approach to boiler pressure issues can save not only on repair costs but also promise a warm and comfortable home throughout the colder months.

“Remember, a well-maintained boiler is a reliable one.”
