Zara Tindall has shared a rare insight into an important lesson Princess Anne taught her.

The accomplished equestrian revealed the valuable fashion lessons shared by her mother, the Princess Royal.

In a recent interview, Zara praised Anne for instilling in her the importance of high-quality clothing, particularly for outdoor pursuits.

“Mum taught me the importance of having good-quality clothing that keeps you warm and comfortable outdoors,” Zara shared.

“As a sportswoman who spends most of my time in nature, this is more important than ever to help me stay at my best.”

Zara’s practical approach to fashion can be seen whether she is competing in equestrian events or attending formal royal occasions.

The 43-year-old’s fashion philosophy echoes her mother’s renowned approach to wardrobe recycling.

Princess Anne, celebrated for her industrious nature, often wears items she has owned for decades.

This practical mindset has since influenced her daughter.

“We do timeless, signature style very well – we know how to dress for formal occasions, but also how to dress for the great outdoors,” Zara continued to tell The Telegraph.

She advises building “a wardrobe of quality investment pieces that will stand the test of time but also have the technical finish you need”.

Zara’s practical yet stylish approach to fashion is evident in her latest collaboration with Musto and Fairfax & Favor.

She launched the new Odyssey coat collection at the Burghley Horse Trials.

“The fit is really good, and they’re warm and durable but also very lightweight with great movement,” Zara explained. “The technical waterproof fabrics and great insulation are exactly what I’d expect.”

The collection, priced between £350 and £450, features four styles in khaki and navy.

Nick Houchin, head of marketing at Musto, praised their long-standing relationship with the royal, stating: “We’ve had the pleasure of working with Zara for over 15 years.”

The mother-of-three’s fashion sense reflects the broader Royal Family’s approach to dressing, which she describes as quintessentially British.

“We do timeless, signature style very well,” she notes, emphasising the family’s ability to dress appropriately for both formal occasions and outdoor activities.

This versatility is exemplified by Zara herself, who is as comfortable in jodhpurs as she is in elegant coat dresses at Royal Ascot.

Her husband, former rugby player Mike Tindall, even contributes to her style choices, often helping with accessory selection.
