Zara and Mike Tindall are set to leave the UK after spending Christmas with the Royal Family.

The royal couple will travel to Australia in early January to partake in Magic Millions, which consists of polo, showjumping and a beach race along the sands of Surfers Paradise.

Writing in the Australian Financial Review Magazine, reporter Jane Knight said: “She and Mike will have to leave the children at home again when they visit Australia, after Christmas with the Royal Family in Sandringham, since school starts again in January.

“But there are recompenses – and it’s not just the promise of karaoke.”

Zara, 43, told the publication: “Galloping down the beach, on the Gold Coast, is fairly unique.”

Referring to herself and Mike, Zara added: “We love the lifestyle and the weather obviously is incredible.

“It’s just very relaxed. We’ve got a lot of friends out there.

“I’ve also been very lucky to be involved in Magic Millions for more than 10 years, which is another reason to go back.”

Magic Millions is a 10-day equestrian carnival owned by Katie Page and her husband Gerry Harvey of the Harvey Norman shopping empire, which takes place on the Gold Coast every January.

Since 2012, Zara, who won a silver medal at the London Olympic Games that year, has been the face of the event.

Beginning as an auction of yearlings and race day, Magic Millions has evolved into a combination of polo, showjumping and a beach race along the sands of Surfers Paradise.

Zara takes part in them all, riding on retrained racehorses, as she is patron of the Retraining of Racehorses charity.

The mother-of-three is also patron of the Magic Millions Racing Women initiative.

Zara continued: “I have a big passion for racing, and being involved and getting more women involved in the racing industry was a great initiative for me to get behind.”

Since the Racing Women initiative started, more than 2000 thoroughbreds have been registered as all-female owned or leased.

Zara said: “It’s an amazing success story, an initiative which has brought a light to women in racing, but also ownership in racing. Along with the love of the horse and being able to watch the horse grow and go to the races, there’s all those other things that ladies like – the fashion, the connection with your friends, going out and meeting other people.”
