Tourists planning a big autumnal get-together with friends and family can now stay in the refined former home of a one-time Rolls Royce director.

The regal property, available via bighouseexperience.com, sits on the shoreline close to one of the UK’s most beloved seaside resorts, Bognor Regis – but feels very much like a country pile.

The extravagant mansion, which is Arts and Crafts in style, is available for holidaymakers looking for a swanky pad to rent – and it sleeps 20 at full capacity, making it ideal for Christmas and New Year stays.

Featured on Channel 4’s Britain’s Most Expensive Homes, the home – known as Beach Manor – costs a surprisingly reasonable £290 per person per night if its rooms are filled.

What do guests pushing through its distinguished front door get access to?

This period retreat – which sleeps 16 in the main house and a further four in a self-catering cottage in the grounds – boasts character-filled features throughout.

Wander through rooms that are clad with intricate wood panelling and also feature vintage leaded windows and parquet flooring.

There’s also a range of mod cons to delight discerning travellers, from super-fast broadband to underfloor heating.

Bognor beauty: Beach Manor sits on the shoreline close to the popular South Coast resort and is now available to hire for a three-night stay with bighouseexperience.com

The telly? It’s a state-of-the-art cinema room with an 87-inch 4K Ultra HD screen – but there’s also another nine TVs in the property.

There’s beautifully manicured lawns and many of the rooms come with sea views and the self-catering home is built for entertaining, with an on-trend outdoor kitchen and BBQ area.

There’s a brick-built gazebo with a beach panoramic and a log burner, and wellness facilities should guests need some R&R, including an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub.

Should you fancy a post-indulgence work-out, there’s also a fully equipped gym – with another great view.

And for those who love nothing more than a few parlour games, there’s a dedicated area for it, with a pool table, table football and chess house there too – and kids will love the Nintendo Switch games console.

The home was built more than a century ago for a Rolls Royce director looking for a family home by the sea – and more than 100 years on, you can still step through the garden gate and feel the sand beneath your toes as he did.

Bognor Regis is one of the UK’s best-known seaside towns today – but it started life as a small fishing village.

It was an 18th-century merchant named Sir Richard Hotham who saw the West Sussex village’s potential as a coastal resort.

He bought up land and created a hotel and an entertainment building, with the resort’s first ‘season’ taking place in 1791.

The town’s popularity soared in the late 1800s after a railway station was built in 1864 that made the seaside hotspot much more accessible.

Bognor was to cement its place even more firmly on the map when King George V stayed there in 1929. This visit led to the addition of ‘Regis’ to the town’s name, after a petition was made to the monarch.

Large house rental specialists Big House Experience, launched in 2016 by husband and wife team Gareth and Claire Allen, rents Beach Manor from £5,800 for three nights, based on 20 people sharing.
