An XL Bully killed a pensioner’s Jack Russell dog, with the elderly man having to carry his dead pet home after the attack.
John Lawrence Kane, 83, was out on a dog walk with his beloved Daisy in Charlton, London, when he noticed two people with “XL Bully”-type dogs.
One of the canines managed to wrangle their way free from their owner and darted towards Kane and Daisy, who were enjoying a stroll at the Cherry Orchard Estate on July 13.
Daisy was mauled by the XL Bully, who despite Kane’s “best efforts”, could not get the dog off and the Jack Russell died at the scene.
The XL Bully then turned its attention onto Kane, leaving him with a severe hand injury.
The 83-year-old had no choice but to carry the lifeless body of his precious pooch 400 yards back to his home.
His son, Sean Kane, told the News Shopper: “When my sister opened the door and they saw what had happened, my mum, who is unwell and on oxygen, almost ended up back in the hospital again.
“I’ve never seen my dad cry like that. My dad’s a pretty tough character. He witnessed it and couldn’t do anything about it. He couldn’t get this dog off.”

The pensioner was taken to hospital by police officers when an ambulance was unable to be sent to the scene.
Medics did not realise the gravity of his wounds until they took of the bandage and his son said that he may need plastic surgery.
A woman believed to be the owner of the dogs handed herself into the police on July 16 and police are continuing their investigation.
Describing their beloved pet, John’s son said: “Daisy was a lovely family dog, very good-natured, and wouldn’t hurt anyone. She had a unique way of asking for treats by sitting on her backside with her paws up.”

“It’s horrifying to think that such dangerous dogs are walking around freely. No matter the breed it is it. It cannot be on the streets.”
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “We can confirm that police were called at 10.29pm on Saturday, 13 July to a report of an attack by what is thought to be an XL Bull Dog at Cherry Orchard Estate, Charlton.
“The suspect was reported to have been walking with two XL Bully type dogs when one of them managed to slip the lead and attacked a man walking his dog.
“The victim, a man aged 80s, suffered a serious hand injury. His dog, a Jack Russell, was sadly killed in the attack.
“The injured man was taken by officers to hospital where the injury to his hand, although not life threatening, requires extensive medical treatment.
“On Tuesday, 16 July a woman, thought to be the owner of the dogs, made herself known to police. Enquiries are ongoing.”
