A spokesperson for Labour has refused to rule out accepting Nigel Farage into the party.

The bizarre proposition came about after a Tory MP defected to Keir Starmer’s side of the Commons.

Natalie Elphicke hit out at the “broken promises of Rishi Sunak’s tired and chaotic Government” as she swapped sides.

In a brutal statement, she accused Sunak of failing to “keep our borders safe and secure”, as well as “failing to build the homes we need”.

Following the defection, Labour were asked if the public should expect any further defections. Starmer’s spokesperson said: “You’ll have to wait and see on that.”

When asked whether Farage would be allowed to join Labour, the spokesman said: “Of course, we have conversations with all sorts of people who talk to us about wanting to come and support the party in various different ways.”

However, Reform MP Lee Anderson slapped down the ludicrous suggestion, saying: “Let me save you the trouble: I can rule it out right now.”
