You may not think twice before running a comb through your hair, but according to one expert, it could be destroying your locks.

Chris Wenzel – who goes by Blowout Professor on YouTube – advised women to stop combing their hair.

The hair guru said: “A tonne of my clients are still ruining their hair by making common hair mistakes. Let’s go over them and make sure it doesn’t happen to you.

“Combs are one of the best ways to ruin your hair. The problem is that most people learned to do their hair from their mum, and she’s just teaching you what her mum taught her 30 years ago – which is super outdated.

“You probably don’t dress like your grandmother, and you don’t watch the same TV shows and movies as her. So why are you doing your hair like your grandmother?”

Chris told women to “never, ever” use a comb to detangle their hair, explaining that this is “going to rip your hair out”.

He explained: “Every time you hit a tangle or a knot, the comb is going to get stuck. And every time this happens, you’re ripping hair.”

The hair guru added that using a comb is a major culprit for causing breakages towards the ends of your hair.

He said: “You may have noticed that the hair at the top is nice and thick but as you go down towards the ends, it starts to thin out.

“It broke off because of mistakes like this that build up over time.”

The expert suggested that ladies swap their comb for a wet brush. He explained that on these, the bristles “flex when they hit a knot instead of ripping your hair out”.

Advice from Hairlust read: “It’s a bad idea to brush your hair when it’s wet, and there’s a special reason for that.

“Wet hair is much more elastic than dry hair, which means the hair stretches more when you brush it, and that’s the reason why it’s also far more fragile than dry hair.

“Dry hair is twice as strong and resistant. So you risk tugging or pulling too much on your hair or even breaking the hair strands if you are too hard on your hair when it’s wet, if you forget to use a wet brush, brush your hair incorrectly or you towel-dry it too harshly.”
