Makeup can have a transformative effect on women. With the right hacks, it’s possible to accentuate your features and look your very best – perhaps even a few years younger.

However, the wrong makeup application can be unflattering. Content creator Kimberly Weimer (@Kimlightupyourface on TikTok) shared the three “biggest eyeshadow mistakes over 50”.

She warned: “We can get caught up in doing our eyes the way we did when they weren’t crepey and saggy.”

The makeup enthusiast urged ladies over 50 to avoid adding shimmer underneath their eyebrows, claiming that “it just ages you”.

Instead of shimmer, the makeup enthusiast advised applying a matte colour under the eyebrows

Instead, she advised using a matte colour. She also suggested extending this matte colour to the inner corner of the eyes “to bring a little bit of light”.

The makeup enthusiast also advised middle-aged ladies against adding a really dark colour to the crease of their eyes – especially if they have deep-set eyes or hooded eyes.

Older skin around the eyes tends to sag which can make the eyes look less prominent.

Kim explained that adding a dark colour to your eye crease “accentuates” it – “and you can’t see the colour anyway”.

Instead, she advised going for a “neutral shadow”. For expert application, women should keep their eyes open, look straight ahead and place the eyeshadow above the crease.

Then, ladies should build eyeliner into the outer corner for a “lift”.

A big mistake women make with their eyeliner is applying it from the outer corner to the inner corner of the upper lash line and then the outer corner to the inner corner of their lower lash line – without connecting the two lines.

This application method means the colour does not meet in the outer corner and consequently it “closes up the eye”.

Instead, after applying eyeliner to the upper lash line, ladies should apply the same colour to the lower lash line, ensuring that the colours meet at the outer corner. For a softer look, a “transition shade” can be added.

In other makeup news, an expert has named the heavy product mature women should avoid.

For your base makeup, the expert instead recommended opting for something “lightweight and luminous”.
