Darwin Nunez quickly stormed off the field after Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Tottenham on Sunday afternoon – and Ian Ladyman and Chris Sutton are lost by the reasoning behind his actions.
It looks like the player may be leaving Anfield sooner rather than later, having deleted all recent Liverpool pictures from his Instagram account, and leaving in a huff despite the important Premier League win for the Reds.
Chris Sutton and Ian Ladyman discussed the Nunez issue during the latest edition of It’s All Kicking Off.
Ladyman noted the 24-year-old Uruguayan ‘didn’t really acknowledge many of his teammates, opponents, all the supporters’ after beating Spurs, and described the situation as ‘very odd indeed’.
Sutton shot back that Ladyman was ‘like Poirot’ with the variety of clues surrounding the Nunez mystery, before adding that he felt it was ‘very odd’ too.

Chris Sutton and Ian Ladyman are at a loss to the reasons behind Nunez’s recent decisions
The former Blackburn and Chelsea striker added: ‘When somebody does that, I assume we think he wants out or is off somewhere.
‘If he’s doing stuff like that, he’s certainly brought attention to it. I mean, you’ve cottoned onto it. Years ago when players wanted to leave a club, they didn’t have all this nonsense, you know, they could have their own thoughts and, you know, keep it under wraps.’
Sutton called it a ‘dumb move from his point of view’, while Ladyman noted ‘There’s been no sign of a problem’.
The ex-striker added: ‘It just looks like he’s gonna be on his way or he’s just deeply unhappy with the club.’
Ladyman quipped that Nunez was holding a ‘protest against the offside law’ for the amount of times he was ahead of play during the 20 minutes he played at Anfield.
He added: ‘I think Nunez is just fed up of having to play by the same rules as everybody else. He really was.
‘He set up a goal for Salah, he was offside. A couple of other runs through the middle, he was offside. He just looked like a player who was reaching the end of the tether.’
Ladyman added: ‘I can’t think for one minute why he would be dissatisfied with life at Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp has supported him throughout his first couple of seasons. A couple of seasons where you and I have spent a lot of time talking about him.
‘I’m a huge fan of his. I think you rate him as well. He has clear deficiencies in his game that we know. He hits the frame with a goal, the post and the bar with more power and venom than any other player we’ve ever seen.

He came off the bench against Tottenham on Sunday, but continued to struggle in front of goal
Ladyman noted that Jurgen Klopp ‘has stood by him’ despite his lack of form in recent weeks
‘But despite it all, Klopp has stood by him, he’s kept picking him, he’s been given his opportunities, so if he’s p***** off with Liverpool, I cannot think for one minute why that would be.
‘Anyway, I’m sure that one will run for a while.’
Sutton considers if ‘maybe we’re reading too much into all this’ – and jokes ‘maybe he felt his hair didn’t look good in some of the pictures’.
Klopp’s final two games in charge of Liverpool are away to Aston Villa next Monday and at home to Wolves on the final day of the season.
