There are countless approaches to weight loss and many go on to try them unsuccessfully, but sustainable methods exist, and they can lead to long-term results.

Joshua Hilton, from Wiltshire, shed 8st 12lb in just 12 months after creating a calorie deficit in his diet, and prioritising protein and vegetables at mealtimes.

The 30-year-old’s drastic transformation took him from 20st 1lb to 11st 5lb

“I used to break into a sweat doing my shoelaces and I would avoid people in the supermarket,” he revealed. “I’ve actually hidden behind a clothes rack before because of the shame.

Before embarking on his weight loss journey, Joshua consumed at least one takeaway a day, sometimes two, alongside late-night snacks and chocolate for breakfast.

“I was drinking three litres of full sugar coke a day,” said Josh. “Napping for four hours and feeling so low.”

As food became an obsession, Joshua found himself planning meals well in advance. Even after three-course restaurant dinners, additional food would be purchased on the way home, he shared.

But the turning point came on January 1, 2024, when Josh committed to a sustainable lifestyle change.

“I vowed to myself that I would change, that I would lose weight and that I would become healthier, happier and fitter,” he said.

Success was achieved through a calorie deficit approach, with no foods being off-limits.

“I just prioritise protein, fibre, fruit and vegetables. But if I want a slice of cake, I’ll have it in moderation,” they explained.

Joshua’s physical transformation first became evident when he noticed a dramatic change in clothing sizes, dropping from a size 2XXL to a size S. His waist size went from 48 inches to 30 inches.

“My old clothes are too big, but I now look forward to shopping. I’m more confident, I’m fitter,” he said. “I can actually tie my shoelaces up without sweating or getting out of breath.”

Following his success, Josh has enrolled on a course to become a weight loss coach. He’s already inspired thousands on social media, with his TikTok page amassing 22,000 followers.

His weight loss content has proven particularly popular, garnering above 1.2 million views in some cases.

“I have inspired people,” he said about transforming his personal struggles into a platform for helping others.

“My 2025 goal is to maintain my weight, tone up and focus on the mental after-effects of losing weight,” he shared. “I want to strive, succeed and keep it off.”
