Rachel Reeves has responded to the news that the growth of the economy has slowed, saying that it is the Labour governments “number one mission.”

Speaking to GB News she said: “Growth is the number one mission of this government. And after 14 years of stagnation, it can’t come too soon.

“Obviously, I want the growth numbers to be stronger than those published today, which is why in the first week in office, I announced a comprehensive set of planning reforms and the creation of a national wealth fund.

“That’s why in the Budget, I committed to £20 billion of support for R&D and investment in infrastructure.

“It’s why in the mansion House speech last night, I announced a comprehensive set of plans for our pensions industry to unlock long term patient capital to help small businesses and startups grow, and also to invest in infrastructure.”
