  • Wallabies fans have slammed Eddie Jones
  • Jones was confirmed as Japan boss on Wednesday
  • Fans are unimpressed with Jones’s conduct with Australia

Wallabies fans have taken to social media to blast Eddie Jones after he was confirmed as Japan’s new head coach.

The Japanese rugby federation confirmed the sport’s worst kept secret on Wednesday in announcing Jones’s return to the position he flourished in between 2012 and 2015.

Jones reportedly first held talks with the Brave Blossoms before the Rugby World Cup, while he was still in charge of the Wallabies, and quit Rugby Australia in October – further fuelling speculation as to his commitment to the job.

And unimpressed Aussies have slammed their former coach after Wednesday’s announcement, taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – to express their disappointment.

‘Hardly the behaviour of a leader of men,’ one fan wrote.

Furious Wallabies fans have labelled Eddie Jones a ‘grub’ after his move to Japan

Another said: ‘Smash and Grab! What a grub.’

A third fan, remarking on Jones’s four-year contract, said: ‘That’s only a 3 month deal in Eddie years.’

Reflecting on Jones’s doomed tenure with the Wallabies, in which they were dumped out at the pool stage, one fan wrote: ‘Like a car crash in slow motion’.

A fifth fan allowed themself to look into the future.

‘I have a vision of Eddie, wearing JRU jacket, in a presser after a Japanese game,’ he wrote. ‘A reporter will ask him what he thought of how Japan played. He will answer “dunno why you’re asking me mate, I’m not their coach.”

‘Going to be hard for him to keep this up for four years.’
