Waitrose has pulled its Chinese Takeaway bags as they contain allergens not listed on the packaging.

This poses a potentially serious health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to some shellfish products.

Chinese Takeaway bag for 2

Brand: Waitrose

Before Date: From September 21 to December 4

The Chinese Takeaway bag for 2 was recalled

WAITROSE

The retailer said: “We are recalling Waitrose Chinese Takeaway bag for 2 due to undeclared allergen – Mollusc

  • Do not consume
  • Package up item
  • Return the product to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund
  • Contact: Waitrose Customer Care 0800 188 884, Option 4

“We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”

Symptoms of mollusc or shellfish allergy can range in severity. They can include itching, hives, swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat, and congestion, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Those with an allergy have been asked not to eat the affected batches, and instead, return them to stores.

Waitrose added: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and would like to assure customers of our continued commitment to the highest standards of product quality and food safety.”

This comes as another curry was pulled from UK stores due to a “possible health risk” and more undeclared allergens.

Britons with an allergy to nuts have been told not to consume the korma

GETTY

P&B (Foods) Limited has recalled Heera Navratan Korma because it contains cashew nuts, which are not mentioned on the label.

The Food Standards Agency said: “This product contains cashew nuts (nuts), making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to cashew nuts (nuts).

“P&B (Foods) Limited is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
