One of Britain’s oldest Royal Navy veterans has celebrated his 102nd birthday.

Sgt Jeffrey Broadhurst is one of the nation’s oldest marines and one of the last surviving members of the Taunton-based 40 Commando to have fought in World War Two.

The Royal Marines Band from HMS Collingwood surprised him with a special day filled with classical music at a care home in Fareham, Hampshire.

When asked how he felt about celebrating his birthday, he said with a laugh: “Not much different than my 101st except it was a bigger do!”
