Lidl is urging shoppers to return one of its popular meat products over concerns that is could lead to fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

An urgent product recall has been issued for Braemoor Duck Breast Fillet products because of the presence of Salmonella.

The Food Standards Agency has issued an alert urging anyone who has purchased a 400g pack of Braemoor 2 Duck Breast Fillets with Plum, Soy and Ginger Sauce Sachet with a best before date of August 21 2024 to return their item to store.

The same advice has been issued for those who purchased a 400g pack of Braemoor 2 Duck Breast Fillets, Skin on and Boneless with a best before date of August 31 2024.

The two products should be returned to store immediately

“Salmonella has been found in the products listed,” Food Standards Agency said on its website.

“Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.”

It warned: “If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them.

“Instead, return them to the store where they were bought for a full refund.”

The NHS states that most people who get Salmonella do not need treatment but warn that it could take up to seven weeks to flush the bacteria out of the body.

It says most people “usually only need to take care to drink plenty water or other clear fluids”.

“Some people find that low fat natural yoghurts and probiotic products (ones that contain small amounts of bacteria) can help to get the bowels back to normal,” it adds.

However, the NHS urged anyone who feels like symptoms have become “severe” to contact a GP.

It added: “The GP should be contacted if symptoms become severe. Antibiotics may be prescribed in exceptional circumstances.

“In most cases it is generally advised to wait until 48 hours after last having diarrhoea or sickness before returning to work or school/nursery.

“This period may be longer for some people and specimens to show the infection has cleared up may be needed.”
