Benson in Oxfordshire recorded the UK’s lowest temperature of -8.1C on Friday morning, after southern England experienced its coldest night of the winter.
Elsewhere in England, temperatures dropped to -7.5C in Shap, Cumbria, and -6.7C at Bournemouth Airport.
In Scotland, the lowest temperature was -6.4C in Eskdalemuir, Dumfries and Galloway, while in Wales, it was -5.1C in Usk, and Northern Ireland recorded -5.7C in Katesbridge.
A fresh yellow warning for ice was issued on Friday for most of Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland, north-west England, East Midlands, and parts of North Wales, which comes into force from 16:00 GMT until 10:00 GMT on Saturday.
Snow showers will continue in north-east Scotland bringing accumulations of up to 10cm over high ground during Friday too.
Some transport disruption was reported. National Rail said the line between Inverness and Dingwall in northern Scotland will be closed until at least 11:00 GMT on Saturday because of “multiple landslips and areas flooded”.
