Getting to and from the airport can be stressful and expensive, but Uber has launched a brand new deal that could make the trek cheap and pleasant – with a slight catch.
The popular rideshare company announced an unprecedented new offer on Tuesday, shockingly proposing a $9 ride to the airport – if you happen to be in New York City.
The enticing offer is only available from specific pick-up stations in Manhattan, leaving travelers to lug their baggage to the meetup spot before arriving to LaGuardia Airport.

The deal, aimed to benefit commuters looking for a cheaper option than the oft-costly taxi, doesn’t last long as riders will pay $9 only for their first trip, as the fee doubles to $18 for subsequent trips

The service – which operates much like the $2.90 bus offered by New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority – is available at several NYC locations including Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal and Port Authority Terminal.
The deal, aimed to benefit commuters looking for a cheaper option than the oft-costly taxi, doesn’t last long as riders will pay $9 only for their first trip, as the fee doubles to $18 for subsequent trips.
In addition, the reduced rate, rolled out to celebrate the rideshare company’s new launch, will only be available during the first month of service.
Users will also share the nearly 35 minute ride with 13 additional passengers as a luxurious Mercedes Sprinter Van will run every 30 minutes from 5 am to 11 pm, seven days a week.
Each van comes fully equipped with leather seats, ambient lighting, charging ports and air conditioning.

Travelers can request up to four seats and can reserve their spot either 5 minutes before departure or up to seven days in advance of their trip

Once booked, commuters will then receive a QR-code ticket and a unique PIN to show the driver.
Similar to most airlines, travelers will each be able to bring one piece of luggage – either a carry-on or checked bag up to 50 pounds – as well as one personal item to fit on their lap or under their seat.
Commuters can track their ride up to 25 minutes before their scheduled departure.
Since the unveiling of the shuttle service, now called Uber Shuttle, many critical onlookers have taken to social media to share their thoughts.
‘This is called a BUS. And they already exist for much cheaper,’ one user on TikTok said of the new roll-out.
Another user added: ‘It’s a bus that costs 3x more than the regular one and will be stuck in traffic from Penn Station to LGA.’
Uber Shuttle plans to provide transportation to and from other large venues in the future as the rideshare company is ‘on a mission [to bring] affordable shuttle service to as many airports as we can,’ Camiel Irving, Uber’s Vice President of Operations for US and Canada told the Wall Street Journal.
