Britons have been issued a fresh travel warning for Kuwait, with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) sharing that terrorist attacks in the Middle Eastern country “cannot be ruled out”.

Those travelling to the destination have been made aware that multiple high-profile locations have been identified as possible targets by terrorist groups.

These include residential compounds, restaurants and hotels, beaches, shopping centres, mosques and military, oil, transport and aviation interests.

Britons were advised: “Terrorist attacks in Kuwait cannot be ruled out. Stay aware of your surroundings, keep up to date with local media reports and follow the advice of local authorities.”

The FCDO shared examples of “recent significant incidents”, including six minors being arrested in Kuwait on suspicion of links with Isis in 2020, and Red Sea military activity.

More recently, three individuals were arrested on suspicion of an alleged Isis plot against a place of worship in 2024.

Issuing guidance on navigating threats from terrorism, the FCDO stated: “There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times.”

UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack.

The FCDO also provides dedicated information on how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad.

Britons planning a visit to Kuwait were also given new guidance on visa requirements for the Middle Eastern country.

The FCDO stated: “You must have a visa to visit Kuwait. You can get a visa on arrival in Kuwait.

“The issuance of e-visas has been temporarily suspended. More information is available from the Kuwait Ministry of Interior.”

At border control, travellers must be able to show a return or onward travel ticket and proof of their accommodation – for example, a hotel booking.

Work visas (both public and private sector) require further documents from an employer. The Kuwait government provides further details on visas and requirements.

Britons in need of work or residency visas can apply to the Kuwaiti Embassy in London.

Those applying for a residency visa must hold a passport that is valid for at least two years.
