An adventure to a scenic waterfall in Costa Rica turned into a close call for a group of friends visiting Parrita in early June.

Graham Shelton captured this footage while visiting the waterfall with a group of friends. The footage shows Shelton and his friends enjoying the view before the cascade suddenly surges and the water level quickly increases.

The group can be seen scrambling to seek refuge on the side of the river, out of the now rushing water. In a vlog, Shelton explained the side of the river they sought refuge on did not have an outlet, so they needed to turn around and cross the river again.

The group were eventually able to make it to safety.

“Our friend has lived in Costa Rica for years and has never had this happen,” Shelton said. Credit: Graham Shelton via Storyful
