Tobias Ellwood vows to QUIT party if Nigel Farage becomes leader

Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood told GB News he would quit the Conservative Party if Nigel Farage took over as leader.

Appearing on The Camilla Tominey Show, the centerist Tory MP said that it would be a mistake for his party to become more “extreme” in the future.

He commented on the possibility of the former Brexit Party leader taking charge amid continued speculation that the GB News presenter may one day return to the Tory Party.

The 59-year-old quit the Conservatives in 1992 but has since hinted he could return.

Tobias Ellwood said he wouldn’t be in the same party as Nigel Farage

GB NEWS

Last month he attended the Conservative Party Conference for the first time in 30 years.

Appearing on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity, he also refused to rule out his hopes of one day being Prime Minister.

Asked on GB News if he would remain in a party with Nigel Farage, Ellwood said: “No. Probably the answer to that is no.”

He added: “I’ve said this numerous times, you know ,when we aim for the centre ground – the centre right ground – of British politics, we win elections.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“When we move to our extreme then I’m afraid we put ourselves in Opposition.

“And the same with Labour when they went for Jeremy Corbyn, where did they go?

“The sweet spot in British politics is when you aim for the centre-right ground. Churchill did that, Thatcher did that, Disraeli did that. David Cameron did that as well.”

Urging against a change in leadership with his party, he continued: “If we look united, if we look resolved, if we look competent, if we have that vision, then yes, we can stay in No10.

“If we look divided, then that’s not going to happen.”

Last month Rishi Sunak told GB News he would be happy to welcome Farage back into the Conservative Party.

He said the Tory Party is a “broad church”, adding that he “welcomes lots of people who want to subscribe to our ideals”.

Meanwhile, Cabinet minister Chris Heaton-Harris told LBC he thinks Farage “feels at home coming to the party that delivered Brexit”.
