A hospice’s furniture shop has been left to pick up the pieces after thieves stole £1,500 by ripping out its safe from the wall.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said Bury Hospice’s shop, inside Asda in Radcliffe, was broken into on Sunday night.

The hospice’s director of income generation Lara Partridge said they would now need to consider security which would “divert money from patient care”.

Ms Patridge told Radio Manchester: “Most of our shops are run by volunteers – it is heartbreaking that people give so much for that money and then it is taken away so easily.”
