Holidaymakers jetting off with Ryanair will now be able to take two certain items on board with them for free.

The budget airline has made a change to its policies that could make a huge difference for families flying.

Ryanair passengers can now take two pieces of carry-on baby equipment with them on board for free.

The Irish carrier states on its website how this can ‘include a pushchair/buggy, car seat, booster seat or travel cot’.

‘These will need to be tagged at the check-in desk or at the boarding gate,’ it continues.

Travellers will be permitted to use pushchairs and buggies until they reach the steps of the plane.

‘Depending on your arrival airport you may find it at the steps of the aircraft or in the arrival’s baggage hall,’ Ryanair adds.

‘Check with the ground staff as you disembark the aircraft.’

There are some restrictions to follow, including around bringing car seats on board.

The airline states that for passengers who want their infant of under 2 years to sit in a car seat for the flight, an extra seat must be booked. It must also be a forward facing car seat.

What’s more, ‘You may bring a car seat on board for an infant or child if it is approved for flying,’ Ryanair says, also outlining the measurements and type of seat.

The carrier also asks that the car seat be ‘of a type approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft’ and have labels outlining it is ‘Certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft’ if American, or ‘European Standard Mark’.

Any extra baby equipment ‘can be checked in for a fee,’ according to the airline.

Travelling for families got easier earlier this year, too, when Jet2 announced that children under two years old can travel with the airline for free.

The new policy was introduced on August 22 and applies to all new bookings.

The child must be aged under two at the time of travel.

Another change that families welcomed this summer was Jet2.com’s rules surrounding child and infant equipment allowance.

No excess baggage will be charged for child or infant equipment being checked into the hold.

There’s also an extra 10kg baggage allowance for children aged under two, as well as two free hold items.

The family-friendly change means parents can check in collapsible pushchairs, car seats, booster seats, travel cots and baby carriers and the 10kg weight limit does not apply.
