The ONLY European country where there are no speed limits

For many motorists, the fastest speed they’ll legally be able to drive is 70mph on the motorway.

Anyone breaking the speed limit could find themselves with a minimum of a £100 fine and three points on their license in the UK.

But there are roads around the world where there are no restrictions.

Germany boasts the Autobahn which is well-known for its lack of speed limit along certain sections.

Around an eighth of the network is derestricted, meaning drivers can put their foot down without worrying about being caught out.

In these areas, the left-hand lane is only used by motorists going at top speeds and vehicles must always overtake on the left.

An advisory speed limit of 81mph is recommended for vehicles that weigh under 3.5 tonnes and passenger cars above 3.5 tonnes, according to RAC.

Green Flag warns about the dangers of driving along this road, especially when people are travelling at 110mph whilst trying to focus on overtaking, changing lanes and watching other drivers who might not be going as fast.

It also explained how the ‘major danger’ is how motorists will be hurtling around at very different speeds to one another.

A third of the Autobahn is restricted to 81mph and the remaining roads have variable speed limits which are important to take note of.

Germany is easily reached from the UK and the average flight time from London is around one hour and 48 minutes, according to Skyscanner.

The debate over whether to keep the no-limit policy in some areas has gone on for years, with officials and car enthusiasts often divided on the issue.

While the Greens and Social Democrats have stressed the need for speed limits, citing safety and the environmental impact, groups such as the FDP say it is a matter of personal choice.

In 2019, the federal government rejected calls to introduce speed limits on the network.

Another speed limitless spot is even closer to home and can be found on the Isle of Man.

The self-governing island is located between Ireland and Great Britain and tourists can visit by ferry or plane.

It has no national speed limit and residential roads are restricted to 30mph.

On unrestricted roads, there is no upper limit although drivers are encouraged by police to ‘drive within their limits’.

Officials on the island have, however, recently confirmed a 20mph limit will be implemented in residential areas, the BBC reports.

This is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
