THE NOTEBOOK: Arsenal claim Gabriel Jesus’ knee injury is only minor, Ian Wright calls for ‘killers’ and fans celebrate cancelled train strikes as Liverpool knock the Gunners out of the FA Cup

Arsenal insist the knee injury that caused first-choice striker Gabriel Jesus to miss the victory against Liverpool is minor.

Mail Sport exclusively revealed on Sunday morning the Brazil international would miss the tie.

But the Gunners are adamant Jesus, who has a history of knee problems, will not be a long-term casualty.

‘He had some pain in his knee, we have done a scan that shows something,’ said Arteta before confirming the striker would travel with the team on their winter trip to Dubai this week. Hopefully it’s not something big,’

Arsenal don’t have a game until January 20th, when the face Crystal Palace, so there is time for Jesus to recover ahead of his team’s next fixture.

Late goals becoming part of Liverpool’s identity

Late goals are fast becoming the story of Liverpool’s promising campaign.

Last season Liverpool scored 23 goals from the 76th minute minute onwards. So far this campaign they have scored 27 from 30 matches.

‘Never give up’ is the mantra that’s become synonymous with Liverpool in recent years. They certainly living up to the sentiment.

Ian Wright calls for ‘killers’ at Arsenal

‘We need a killer,’ posted Arsenal hero Ian Wright alongside a selfie of himself looking rather exasperated in his seat during another Arsenal display characterised by poor finishing.

Of course, Wright knows a thing or two about what it takes become a regular on the Arsenal scoresheet having scored 185 times for the club. He’s not wrong either.

But the chances of Arsenal landing one of their preferred striker options this month will be difficult due to FFP restrictions.

Cancelled train strikes give fans something to smile about

There was little to shout about for Arsenal in the way of goals on Sunday. There was, though, another reason for supporters to be cheerful as news of the cancelled train strike filtered round the Emirates Stadium.

Fans were facing travel chaos due to planned London Underground strikes; an advisory from Transport for London had urged commuters to complete their journeys by 5:30pm ahead of a restricted service that would provide ‘little to no’ provisions until Friday.

Given the game kicked-off at 4.30pm, those at the game would have been caught right in the middle of the disruption.

So, at least Arsenal’s fans had something to celebrate as the news was announce during the second half.
