As travel trends change over time, the ways Brits approach their holidays are shifting too.

Several long-standing travel habits are surprisingly being quietly ditched this year.

From packing techniques to what travellers get up to once they are inside the airports, there are plenty of switches being made.

The biggest behaviour being dropped, according experts at Ski Vertigo, is holidaymakers no longer drinking and dining as much in airports.

For some, an airport pint or full English are the perfect fuel to ready them for a flight, but it appears this might not be so popular anymore.

Rising prices and overall cost of living means more people are packing permitted snacks in their hand luggage to cut their expenses and avoid buying food in the travel hub.

As for what travellers are putting in their bags, this has changed too.

Passengers are now less likely to overpack, with many leaving the bad habit behind to avoid extra charges and fees on their baggage.

Some airlines have even seen a strong demand for hand luggage only tickets.

There are plenty of positives to packing light – from quicker movement through airports to lower costs overall.

Holidaymakers are now increasingly checking their flight status before arriving at the airport.

Previously, it was common for travellers to head to the hub without even seeing the live travel updates.

But now passengers are more likely to check these vital things, including flight status, security wait times and gate information, before they even hop into their taxi to the airport.

Perhaps a risky habit, many are no longer checking their travel insurance policies before heading off on their adventures.

Some holidaymakers have found their policies don’t cover weather-related disruptions.

Travellers are being more mindful about their accommodation too and instead of focussing on the price, are moving towards looking at reviews that are winter-specific and will ensure a warm stay with good transport links.

But why are these common habits changing?

Travel experts explain the shifts are more obvious in January, as the new year begins and resolutions are made.

Some passengers might be more mindful of their spending after an expensive Christmas.

Or they may have experienced travel delays over the winter and want to be careful they aren’t impacted any more.
