Ticking off every destination on your travel bucket list can be an expensive feat to complete.

Summer can feel like a natural time to visit certain spots, but can also be pricey.

Meanwhile, the winter months can drive up costs with tourists jetting off to festive locations.

Fortunately, there are certain months where some destinations might work out to be cheaper to travel to.

Go2Africa has calculated the best locations for every month of the year – read on below to find out where to head to save some pennies.

January

Denmark has a rich history and an abundance of great cities to explore, from Copenhagen, Odense and Aarhuse.

Another European spot, Italy draws in visitors with its delicious cuisine and landscapes.

Meanwhile, Greece has endless coastline and sandy beaches, and is still quite mild in January with highs of 15 degrees.

February

Croatia is another affordable spot and has miles of coastline, countless small islands and historic cities to explore.

Elsewhere, an average hotel in Poland costs $84 (£62), according to Go2Africa, and the country is known for offering decently priced food and drink too.

Hungary boasts impressive architecture and for those wanting to take a warm dip in an otherwise chilly time of the year, its capital Budapest has welcoming thermal baths.

March

  • Algeria
  • The Netherlands
  • Portugal

Algeria is typically less busy than other destinations like Morocco and has plenty to enjoy.

While the Netherlands boasts its iconic canals and waterways, as well as colourful buildings in locations like Amsterdam.

Portugal is usually seen as a summer destination but still offers amazing cuisine and beautiful cities to explore during cooler months too.

April

Georgia has everything from stunning beaches to dramatic mountain landscapes, and temperatures typically hover around a pleasant 15 degrees in April, making it ideal for sightseeing.

Meanwhile, Germany is less than a two-hour flight from the UK and offers excellent value in spring, with mild weather, fewer crowds and vibrant cities such as Berlin, Munich and Hamburg to explore, alongside historic towns, castles and renowned beer halls.

May

Czechia is bursting with beautifully preserved historic cities like Prague to explore, and visitors can sip on the country’s beloved beer while doing so.

For somewhere further afield, Japan works out as more affordable in May, with the average hotel cost coming to $153 (£113).

Turkey is popular in the summer but proves to be much cheaper in May when travellers can enjoy its beaches and hotels without the crowds.

Many travellers consider Finland as a great viewing spot for the Northern Lights, but it has so much more to offer. There are lush landscapes, impressive lakes and healthy, clean air to take in too.

November

  • Norway
  • Canada
  • Estonia

Norway has countless miles of natural beauty to enjoy and an average hotel comes to just $153 (£113) in November.

The long-haul flight might be worth it with Canada, as it’s the second-biggest country on Earth but one of the least populated. What’s more, Canada has the longest coastline in the world.

Estonia works out to be more affordable in November, and its medieval capital Tallinn is worth checking out for its impressive architecture.
