With drizzly days and cold morning commutes, many Brits are dreaming of their next sunny escape.

More than 5million British holidaymakers are set to book their summer holiday this month, with Spain being the most popular destination.

And while July and August are the most popular months to go away, the time between now and summer often feels like an eternity.

If you’re looking to squeeze in some winter sun before your next big trip, we’ve found flights to this Spanish gem for as little as £15.

Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, is known for its year-round ‘Eternal Spring’ climate.

The island is one of Europe’s top destinations for winter sun with daytime February temperatures of around 20C.

And the best news is that Tenerife is about to host one of the largest carnivals in the world.

This year, Tenerife’s Carnaval de Santa Cruz is set to take place in the streets from February 13 to February 22.

The celebration features nightly parties, parades and costume competitions.

Drinking and eating out is very affordable in Tenerife with local beers such as Dorada costing around €1.50 to €3.00 (£1.30 to £2.60) for a pint.

‘Guachinches’ (small, local restaurants) offer the cheapest, authentic food and drink.

They are primarily found in the north of the island, serving homemade Canarian cuisine and house wine.

They offer an intimate, cosy atmosphere with limited menus, often featuring grilled meats, cheese and stew, at very reasonable prices, commonly around €8 to €10 (around £7 to £9) for a meal.

As for things to do, February is a great time to explore Teide National Park.

Visitors can take the cable car up Mount Teide for stunning views or hike through the volcanic landscapes.

While the sea is around 19C, the beaches are perfect for sunbathing, particularly in the south at Playa del Duque or Los Cristianos.

In February, we’ve found mid-morning Ryanair flights from multiple UK airports for just £15, meaning you could be sipping on sangrias at your hotel in time for dinner.

On February 9, there are flights from Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham, Edinburgh and London from just £15.

There are also flights for under £30 from Liverpool, Newcastle and Glasgow.

For return options, you could be in Tenerife during the festival season with return flights from Manchester from £30.

Accommodation can also be very affordable with a double room at the two-star Hotel Rural Vilaflor costing around £70 per night in February.
