Officials have asked for ideas highlighting the town’s heritage, culture and community, which can be submitted online, external or at a special postbox in the SQ Stretford community hub.
Suggestions will be whittled down to a shortlist of three before members of the public can vote on their favourite name between 1-16 June.
The selected name of the new public square is expected to be announced on 6 July.
James Tootle, head of retail and leisure at Bruntwood, said: “The new public square will be at the heart of Stretford town centre, and who better to name it than the local community.”
He said the new square will provide “a space for everybody in the Stretford community and our vision is that it will inspire even more great collaborations”.
Opened in 1969, the then-Stretford Arndale was one of the biggest indoor shopping precincts.
