Mr Randles, from Hebden Bridge, said: “I was trying to get him somewhere safe as quickly as possible.”
Residents of a nearby property offered the stranded family a place to keep dry and warm while Mr Randles called recovery services.
His partner, Paige Newsome, said: “It could’ve been a completely different outcome.
“We could not be sitting here with both of them, so I’m very grateful to Andre.
“I’m very proud of him and of how fast-thinking he was.”
Mr Randles said since the incident other people had experienced similar issues on the road, with one person getting stuck in the same spot later on Saturday.
The family now hoped measures would be put in place to prevent it happening again.
