Scotland supporters delivered some brutal and hilarious responses when asked to name their favourite English people as they partied in Stuttgart at Euro 2024.
A victory for Steve Clarke’s side against Hungary this evening should be enough to seal Scotland’s spot in the last-16 as one of the four best third-placed teams.
Their chances were effectively written off after their 5-1 defeat by Germany in their first game in Group A but their 1-1 draw with Switzerland placed them on the cusp of qualification – leaving the vocal ‘Tartan Army’ in good spirits around the ground.
Thousands were spotted nursing beers and bellowing out chants as the atmosphere reached fever pitch several hours before kick-off at the Stuttgart Arena.
Some even took time away from the festivities to speak to Mail Sport and when quizzed on whether they could name their favourite English person, they delivered.

Many were unable to come up with an answer. One simply said ‘Nobody’ while another, clad in an orange wig, hesitated for a second and simply walked away.
‘Basil Fawlty’ quipped one, referencing the hit BBC comedy ‘Fawlty Towers’.
Another name-dropped renowned TV host and reporter Gabby Logan, saying: ‘She’s beautiful and she’s married to a Scottish person [former rugby player Kenny Logan].’
One supporter chose Jordan Pickford and revealed he had split loyalties, explaining: ‘Jordan Pickford because I’m an Everton fan. But he’s got T-Rex arms.’
Paul Gascoigne also earned a mention with another supporter adding: ‘I reckon Gascoigne is the best English person you’ll ever see.’
A further Scot opted for Steven Gerrard due to his Liverpool loyalties. Alluding to the viewpoint of some Reds supporters, he then said: ‘Scouse not English!’

Musician Rod Stewart also cropped up during the wacky chats with Mail Sport.
Another supporter cheekily named Diego Maradona, perhaps a Hand of God jest.
Scotland midfielder John McGinn alluded to the country’s united front ahead of this evening’s crucial late kick-off, saying: ‘We’ve obviously had a lot of injuries along the way – but us Scots are best at enduring adversity.
‘Hopefully we can prove a lot of people wrong. We have players who’ve been involved in high-pressure matches, but we’re not feeling pressure, we feel anticipation about being that team who changes things for Scottish football.
‘I don’t think a lot of people across Europe thought we could do it, so we want to be the ones who do. We all know the magnitude of the occasion.
‘We have the chance to write our name into the history books.’
