So, as the clamour to oust the worst Prime Minister in history gets louder those hoping Sir Keir Starmer will do the decent thing and walk away need to think again.
This robotic dud of a PM, who doesn’t have an ounce of political nous, will cling to power until his fingernails bleed.
That’s despite a petition calling for a rerun of the election – which in a handful of days and just five months after the July 4 vote, has already been signed by more than two and a half million people.
And the numbers are growing by the hour. And make no mistake, this petition is hugely significant not because it can force another election – because it can’t – but because it’s a warning that a populist rebellion against the Establishment is coming.
It’s a rebellion that has risen out of the ashes of a fearful, angry and disillusioned nation. Just like it did in Italy with Giorgia Meloni, in Amsterdam with Gert Wilders and in the US with Donald Trump.
It started here under the Tories but it reached boiling point under Labour’s incompetence.
People are sick to the back teeth of sky-high illegal immigration, diversity and equality drives, useless public services, and the collapse of law and order where hardened criminals get off with no punishment.
They’re sick of billions being squandered on foreign aid and the suicidal race to Net Zero while pensioners here freeze.
Those who rashly voted Labour at the last election and said, “Well, they can’t be worse than the Tories”, have discovered that they damn well can be because this Government is peopled by a bunch of hopeless, hapless inexperienced career politicians who’ve never had a proper job and couldn’t run you know what in a brewery let alone a country.
So, now people have got big-time buyer’s remorse with this Government and in record time. Starmer’s approval ratings have plummeted 49 per cent since the election, and he’s now at minus 38 per cent. And you’d have thought this petition might have given Mr Flip Flop and Reeves and Co a wake-up call.
You’d have thought it might have made them understand the depths of people’s anger and discontent – not just of the Tories who didn’t vote for them but of the lifelong Labour supporters who did.
But, Downing Street’s reaction to this petition was to tell us: “The PM is focused on the issues that matter to the British People.”
No, he isn’t. That’s the bloody point. He’s barely been in this country since he was elected and has spent the last few weeks galivanting around the globe glad-handing world leaders.
Even when he chose to be interviewed this week by the “soft” journalistic powers at This Morning that are Andi Peters and Cat Deeley Starmer, he looked like he’d been smacked in the face with a wet fish when Peters told him he was less popular than Nigel Farage.
A stupid thing to say, obviously, because Farage’s popularity is currently at an all-time high. But the fact is Starmer looked at them both open-mouthed, unable to understand the implied criticism and totally unable to answer it.
All he could muster ( because he can’t stomach criticism) is: “I remind myself that very many people didn’t vote Labour at the last election – I’m not surprised that many of them want a re-run.”
This is the bloke who spends every waking moment telling us that he was elected by a stonking majority when the fact is he got fewer votes than Corbyn did when he lost the election back in 2019.
Anyway, what’s clear is that Starmer isn’t getting what this petition is trying to tell him – that not only do people want him gone but they are no longer prepared to tolerate a rotten system that favours wokeism, lawlessness and that sees white people being persecuted simply for being white.
They’re sick of having their intelligence insulted by being told illegal immigration is good for this country when they know to their cost it’s not.
Everything, but everything this Government has done is dead wrong. Its growth-bashing budget has upset businesses, many of which are now threatening to leave the UK. It’s upset farmers, pensioners, the Bank of England, the Bond markets, the City and millions of ordinary people who now feel Iike they’re living in a police state where they can be slung in jail for what they think and say.
Even Elon Musk has backed the petition this week saying: “ The people of Britain have had enough of a tyrannical police state.”And his words – and this petition – are making global headlines which is catastrophically embarrassing for a government that has only been in power for five months.
Britons have realised we now have a cabinet that has no business experience, no economic experience (Reeves is accused of lying on her LinkedIn profile), and no experience of anything that matters to run a government. And the decisions it’s currently making are driving up inflation and steering us towards a recession.
Say what you like about the Tories, but before Labour came to power, we had the fastest-growing economy in the G7. In the three months between July and September (under Labour), the economy grew by a piddling 0.1 per cent, and GDP fell by one per cent in Sept.
Worse still, the Office for Budget Responsibility has downgraded its growth forecast for the latter half of this parliament. That’s why 2.5 million people and counting have signed this petition.
Yes, they’re angry that they’ve been duped and lied to. But more importantly, they’re frightened of what’s going to happen to this country in Labour’s hands. Because nothing that Starmer and Reeves did in the budget will create the growth they keep banging on about, and even though people who know more about the economy than they do (which is almost everyone ) are telling them the budget will crush growth, success and investment – but they’re not listening.
More importantly, it’s clear they’re not listening to the two-and-a-half million desperate people who are telling them what they’re doing is a disaster. It actually doesn’t matter that this petition can’t force another election.
Why? Because it’s democracy speaking. It’s fearful, raging, desperate people telling this God-awful Government that there’s a rebellion coming ….. and they’d better be ready for it!
