With drizzly weather, dark mornings and short days, many Brits dream of long summers in far-flung destinations.

January is the busiest month for holiday bookings, with millions of trips planned and a predicted £4billion spent on UK package holidays.

And with that in mind, global travel app Skyscanner has announced the launch of its package holidays search on desktop, mobile and app.

The new feature aims to make it easier and faster for travellers to compare and find deals from top providers all in one place.

Skyscanner data shows demand for package holidays has increased by 113 per cent since the start of the year.

New consumer research reveals more than half of UK travellers are considering booking a package holiday this year, with cost savings top of mind for many.

The research also revealed a surprising generational trend emerging, with a third of Gen Z and over a quarter of Millennials more likely than older travellers to favour a package holiday in 2026.

The main reasons for this, according to Skyscanner, are cost, reduced complexity and convenience of having one booking as opposed to separate flights and accommodation.

Skyscanner claims its new package holidays search will work by searching 25million packages across the biggest UK package holiday providers and finding the ‘best deals’, including all-inclusive and top beach and city breaks.

Like other package holiday sites, travellers can search by location and date, narrowing their choices down by filters such as star ratings and board type.

Once a traveller finds the right option, they’re redirected to the provider’s site to complete their booking. All packages on Skyscanner are ATOL protected.

According to Skyscanner, travellers can save 30 per cent on average when comparing package holidays using the new search.

Some destinations stand out for the best potential savings with long-haul destinations including Mexico, Barbados, Mauritius and Marrakech.

For example, travellers can stay in Mexico (Cancun) for seven nights at the four-star Tukan Hotel Playa del Carmen in June from £808.

Holidaymakers searching for a trip to Marrakech, Morocco, can find deals for four nights at the five-star Grand Mogador Agdal & Spa in September from just £353.

There is also a range of package deals for short city breaks, including five nights at the four-star Hotel Imperatori in Rome, Italy, in June from £316.

A Skyscanner spokesperson said: ‘January is the busiest month of the year for travel planning, and who isn’t dreaming of palm trees and sun-soaked beaches with the wintry weather!

‘But our research shows that for many, finding that perfect holiday can feel overwhelming, with value for money top of mind.

‘We’re excited to bring our industry-leading price comparison tech (which travellers already trust us for with flights, hotels, and car hire) to packages.

‘With more and more choice in how package holidays are constructed, travellers need an easier way to compare all of the options in one place, to find great deals without the hassle.’
