F1 legend Martin Brundle has lashed out at X owner Elon Musk for being an ‘interfering d***’.

Brundle, who competed in F1 between 1984 and 1996, has become an integral part of Sky Sports’ coverage in recent years, with his famous ‘grid walk’, where he interviews celebrities before the race, becoming a hit with fans.

The 2024 F1 season concluded last month and Brundle has kept a low profile in recent weeks, but he has thrust himself back into the spotlight by taking aim at Musk following his repeated attacks on Keir Starmer in recent days.

Taking to X on Monday night, Brundle threatened to quit the platform as he wrote: ‘I’m conflicted. I like Twitter/X and it has served F1, Sky, me, and people around me, very well for a good while. But @elonmusk is such a daily globally interfering d*** I feel the need to go somewhere else.’

After receiving responses from fans, Brundle returned with a follow-up post a couple of hours later that read: ‘I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the diversity to my last post, including the negativity. That’s what keeps you alive and motivated, and in touch. I’ll stick with Twatter/X and keep my mind open. Opinions are like noses, everybody’s got one and they all count.’

Musk, who owns X, is the CEO of Tesla and is a senior adviser to incoming US president Donald Trump, has grabbed headlines over the past week by hitting out at UK Prime Minister Starmer over his handling of grooming gang cases.

His comments come following Musk’s repeated attacks on Keir Starmer in recent days

Musk has criticised Starmer’s handling of grooming gang cases and called for him to be replaced as UK Prime Minister

The multi-billionaire launched a tirade against the PM and the UK government on Friday centered on historic crimes where groups of British Asian men targeted teenage girls.

He criticised Sir Keir and safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips before backing a madcap call for King Charles to unilaterally dissolve the government and call an election.

And later he accused Sir Keir, who was director of public prosecutions (DPP) between 2008 and 2013, of having allowed criminals to get away with abuse.

‘Starmer must go and he must face charges for his complicity in the worst mass crime in the history of Britain (sic),’ he said.

Keir hit back at Musk without specifically name-checking him in an impassioned speech on Monday where he defended his record as DPP, insisting he had tackled the issue of child sexual exploitation ‘head on’, and condemned threats being made towards Phillips.

‘Jess Phillips does not need me or anybody else to speak on her behalf, but when the poison of the far-right leads to serious threats to Jess Phillips and others, then in my book, a line has been crossed,’ Starmer said.

‘I enjoy the cut and thrust of politics, the robust debate that we must have, but that’s got to be based on facts and truth, not on lies, not on those who are so desperate for attention that they’re prepared to debase themselves and their country.

‘So this Government will get on with the job of protecting victims, including child sexual abuse, mandatory reporting, accelerating the processes. But what I won’t tolerate is this discussion, debate based on lies without calling it out.

Brundle threatened to quit X after becoming angered by Musk’s outbursts

After receiving responses from fans, Brundle announced he will be sticking with X for now

‘What I won’t tolerate is politicians jumping on the bandwagon simply to get attention, when those politicians sat in government for 14 long years, tweeting, talking, but not doing anything about it.

‘Now, so desperate for attention that they’re amplifying what the far-right is saying.’

Brundle also appears to have become angered by Musk’s comments on X, but has performed a U-turn on leaving the social media platform for now.
