Sir Rod Stewart recently admitted that he would have asked for his money back after hearing his top hit Maggie May for the first time back in the 70s.
Stewart is among one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with his distinctive raspy voice having sold more than 120 million records worldwide.
His single Maggie May was the record which erupted his music career and launched him into stardom, but the Do Ya Think I’m Sexy singer still has his reservations about the song.
Discussing his biggest hit, Stewart recently told Classic Rock Stories: “Isn’t it a wonder I’ve survived some of my f***ing terrible career moves? Sometimes I worry about me! ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’? If I was a male fan, I’d think, ‘Up yours, Jack!’.”
Despite the songwriter and singer hating the song, it did help expose Stewart to a new audience over the years and for those curious to look into his older material afterwards, they were in for some of the greatest singing of the 1970s.
Now, the music legend is more complimentary about his music, after he recently opened up about a personal loss which inspired his latest album.

Reflecting on some of his earliest memories from his new album with Jools Holland, he shared how his late brother, Don, used to sing Walkin’ My Baby Back Home, which features in his latest record, Swing Fever.
Uploading a clip of himself and Holland discussing their new album on Instagram, Stewart noted: “When did you first hear the tracks of Swing Fever?!
“Jools and I discussing when we first heard ‘Walkin’ My Baby Back Home’ and all of the other legendary songs from the album.”
Talking about the track, Holland asked the Maggie May legend: “So, when did you first hear that? Who was doing it?”
“Well, I used to hear my brother singing it,” he replied. “He’s just passed, so he won’t be singing it anymore, he was 94 when he died. And when I was a little kid all my family used to sing all these songs.”

“Did they sing them at Christmas?” Holland asked before Stewart confirmed: “They sung them at Christmas, at Christmas parties. So even my wife, who’s only like 50, she knows all these songs, all of them.
“It’s not like you hear them on the radio, they enter the psyche and they stay there. That’s what you call songwriting, I suppose.”
Stewart recently surprised his fans after he walked into a pub in Glasgow and gave them a special performance alongside Kevin McGuire and rock band Johnny Mac.
According to the Daily Record, the singer stopped at Murphy’s bar after the game and can be seen in footage belting out his classic Maggie May with McGuire.

Crowds could be heard cheering and applauding at the Irish bar in the video, which was posted to McGuire’s TikTok account.
Sharing the special moment, he wrote: “Performing MAGGIE MAY with ROD STEWART [INSANE MOMENT].”
