Sarah Ferguson has turned down appearing on a popular UK reality show “hundreds of times”, but has set her eyes on a role in a TV costume drama instead.
The Duchess of York, who is fond of dressing in period costume, has asked her agent to get her a part in Bridgerton, a hit TV show on Netflix.
She said that she appreciates the show’s elaborate sets and would love to play a former pal of one of the main characters, Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan.
Speaking to Platinum Magazine, the 64-year-old said: “I’ve asked my agent to get me on Bridgerton! The set designs are incredible! I could be a long-lost friend for Penelope. I just have to be on ‘Bridgerton!’”
However, whilst she was adamant that she wanted a role on the streaming giant’s period piece, she snubbed a role on another popular show.
“I’ve been asked to go on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ hundreds of times, and the answer is always no. I’m sure it’s lovely for lots of people, but not for me!”
Her comments come after she made a cameo appearance as a Duchess in the TV movie An American in Austen, released earlier this year.
She added: “I’ve already had five lines in An American in Austen, which is a TV show about this American girl that dives into Austenland where she meets Mrs Bennett and the daughters who arrive at the ball to meet the Duchess, who’s me.

Like the character of Penelope, who is a writer, Fergie is no stranger to putting her thoughts and stories down on paper.
Her Mills & Boon series is based on her great aunt, Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott, and takes the reader from Queen Victoria’s court to 1870s New York, and to Scotland and Ireland.
The latest book in the series is focused on the same character, who Fergie says is similar to her as they are both “acutely observant and fascinated by people”.

She also discussed her recent skin cancer diagnosis during the interview and said how grateful she was for her family’s support.
It was revealed in January that Sarah had a mole removed from her body which was tested as a malignant melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.
The 64-year-old said: “The whole York family has rallied round and I couldn’t have got through it without them.
“My girls in particular have been rock solid in their support. We always call ourselves “the tripod” as we are there to prop each other up through thick and thin, and they have certainly demonstrated that in recent months.”
