Chelsea and Australia star Sam Kerr sustained an ACL injury during warm weather training in Morocco, her club have confirmed.
She is the latest player to suffer the serious injury setback, with several of the top players in the WSL and world football to have been affected, including Beth Mead and Alexia Putellas.
Chelsea Women posted to X (formerly Twitter): ‘Chelsea Football Club can confirm striker Sam Kerr has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during our warm weather training camp in Morocco.’
The club confirmed that Kerr will be assessed by a specialist in the coming days, and then begin her rehabilitation with the Chelsea medical team.
A later tweet from Chelsea read: ‘Keep your head up, @SamKerr1. We’re all with you.’, alongside a blue heart emoji.

The 30-year-old is out of contract with Chelsea at the end of the current season, having signed for the Blues as a free agent in December 2019.
Their next fixture is against West Ham in the Women’s FA Cup, with Kerr’s fiancee Kristie Mewis recently finalising a move to the Hammers.
Kerr has scored 99 goals in 128 matches for the Australian national team, and was a key part of the side that finished fourth in the 2023 World Cup on home soil.
The Matildas echoed the news on X, reporting: ‘Our captain, SamKerr1 will be on the sidelines for an extended period after suffering a ruptured ACL.
‘We’re all behind you as you start your road to recovery, Sam.’
