Sadiq Khan has been ordered to “resign” by commentator Lizzie Cundy after refusing to apologise to police marksman Martyn Blake at the London Assembly.
The London Mayor publicly supported Chris Kaba and his family following the death of the gang member in September 2022. However, in a recent trial at the Old Bailey, the officer who shot at Kaba was found not guilty of his murder.
Addressing the verdict at the London Assembly this week, Khan was quizzed by Susan Hall on whether he would now apologise to Martyn Blake, following his acquittal.
Khan refused, stating that “in a democracy, we have a proper system of checks and balances in relation to how the police are held to account”.

Branding his response “waffle”, Hall pressed Khan again on whether he would apologise, to which he claimed it’s “very important to make sure there is a system of accountability”.
Discussing the grilling on GB News, broadcaster and commentator Lizzie Cundy branded the Mayor a “disgrace” and “isn’t fit to hold office”.
Cundy fumed: “I think he should apologise and then he should resign. I think he’s an absolute disgrace and I don’t think he’s fit to hold office.
“He is a man that has an inflated ego – it’s always everyone else’s fault, and he should absolutely apologise to this officer and to his family, because now they have a bounty on his head. His name is known everywhere, and Chris Kaba, let’s not be no bones about it, was a horrific gangster with a dreadful past.”

Offering a defence for Khan, former Home Office minister Norman Baker claimed that he “can’t be criticised” for offering “sympathy to Kaba’s family”.

Baker told GB News: “You can’t criticise someone for being sympathetic to a family that’s lost a member, that’s relatively neutral.
“If he blamed the police officer before he was tried, and I’m not sure he did, then that clearly is wrong. If he didn’t blame the police officer, there’s nothing to apologise for.”
In disagreement with Baker, Cundy stressed that as the Mayor of London, Khan “should be supporting the police”.
She added: “He’s supposed to, as Mayor of London, surely support the police. And I think as a Londoner, we deserve better.

“We deserve better than him, and I think he’s an absolute disgrace for saying that.”
Delivering his verdict on the case, Baker argued that all politicians should “keep out” of airing views on the matter, to prevent any backlash or controversy.
Baker stated: “Whenever there’s a case of a potential legal action being taken in the public interest, someone being prosecuted, then politicians should keep out of that and not make comments for or against, because there’s a judicial process that takes place and people then go through that process.
“And it’s wrong to try and influence that in any shape or form.”
